Casa Marinella Project
As part of my Public History class, all the students worked with an organization called Casa Marinella, which works to provide aid to asylum seekers. They help the incoming individuals understand the laws on how to apply for asylum and help them find lawyers, a place to stay, and a community. Casa Marinella asked my class to create projects that would help give insight into the plight of the asylee seekers and publish them on their website. My partner and I created a PowerPoint presentation exploring the different ways individuals could seek help. and possibly gain asylum in the United States, as well as some of the obstacles that stood in their way.
Assistant Director of Middle Tennesse Regional History Day Contest
I worked as the Assistant Regional Coordinator for Middle Tennessee Region. My duties consisted of administering the Facebook page (TPS.MTSU), drafting monthly newsletters, reaching out to various schools, delegating tasks, helping judge at local and district contests, helping plan the regional contest, creating judges' accounts, creating schedules for the contest, administer over the event and organize and send post-contest information.
Teaching With Primary Sources
Every month, starting in the fall of 2023, I would work with the Teaching with Primary Sources (TPS) program to help find primary source documents from the Library of Congress on the fourth page of their newsletters. That teachers could then use to form lessons around. I have also attended the Tennessee Council for History Education, where I kept a booth and drafted the 2024 Conference Flyer, as well as helped to format lesson plans for their website. I helped research a grant application for the CHP to become the regional director of Teaching with Primary Sources through the Library of Congress, researching organizations and conferences where connections could be made, the teaching standards for the seven states of the region, as well as look for possible ideas to facilitate future content through.
